Calcium chloride pellets accelerate the melting process by generating a large amount of heat on contact with snow and ice. Calcium chloride is used as an ice salt to quickly melt ice from roads and sidewalks. A light salting of the calcium chloride de-icer prior to a major snow or ice event can promote deicing and prevent ice from forming.
